Daily Transformation is Incremental

Have you ever noticed that most of the important things in life are daily?

Many of the things that will have the greatest impact on our lives, either positively or negatively, require our daily attention. Prayer, study, family, work, rest, eating right, exercise, and the like, all seem to need the regular input of personal discipline and perseverance.

For me, the reality that I needed to keep all those plates spinning seemed at times a little overwhelming. Then I came to a little different perspective that helped me, and I hope that it encourages you as well.

The decisions we make about these things each day directly affect the change in our circumstances for that day – either for the better or for the worse. That change, with each subsequent change, over time, creates the trajectory our future will take in each of those areas.

Since “Rome wasn’t built in day,” I came to understand that my transformation will likely take time too. Change is usually incremental, so the transformation we seek will likely be made up of many of those smaller steps as well. This means that we won’t need to achieve the whole goal we have all at once, we will just need make some positive impact or progress each day in order to reach our destination.

Paul talks about this process in 2 Cor 3:17-18:

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”

The Greek word translated here as “transformed” is
metamorphoo, from which we get the English word metamorphosis, or changing from one type of creature to another. This is not an instantaneous event, it is an ongoing process, with many steps. Of course, our spiritual rebirth is a singular event, but the ongoing transformation into his image and spiritual maturity is an ongoing one, as are most of life’s challenges.

So be encouraged, by making the right choices today you are changing. Both you and your circumstances change every day, and you have the power to choose the direction you go. You don’t have to tackle the whole journey all at once, you just have to take today’s step in the right direction – choose to go forward.

Daily transformation is incremental - Go ahead, win the day! Take the next step to reclaiming your land!

Much Love,

Tim McKitrick
